Meez

I came across a link yesterday to the Meez character generator - it’s a sort of dress up doll that can represent your cyber-personality.

The interface is quite neat, with an easy to use click and something happens to your character - plus I liked the animations and large choice of options. The picture is of my character I whipped up in a few minutes, and on the Meez page it’s a very smoothly animated Java Applet with some well formed HTML structure on the page. In less geek speak, it works well!

What I don’t like though, is if you want some of the nicer stuff you have to pay for it - but it’s one way for them to generate revenue since I did not spy any ad’s - and it’s all a bit US centric in design. Being British I don’t know that much about surfing and beach life, it’s to darn cold! Though I suppose it’s an ideal when it comes down to it ;)

The only other downer - since it’s not a complaint, just a wish it was a bit more - is you cannot embed the character anywhere outside of the Meez website. Since it’s a Java app, the hosting and animation of the character is run from the Meez servers, so the best you can get is an automatically generated screen grab that you can place on your blog or MySpace account, which links back to the Meez site - where they are trying to generate their own social network effectively.

Personally, I would prefer it integrated into the platform you want to view it on to add to your individuality on the net, rather than having to sign up for yet more accounts on more disparate sites.

Verdict: Nice eye-candy, but doubt it will last.

Send in your wish - I will review it and add it to the site!
